Up for sale is my 1964 Bristol 408. It is in I would say #3 minus driver level condition and features a rebuilt Chrysler 340 6 Pack engine instead of its standard Chrysler 313 poly engine. The car has its stock 72 Torqueflight transmission.
The condition of the body is excellent with a slight ding on the left side of the corner of the roof. Ding is about 1/8 of an inch and happened when it was shipped to me. The car received a bare metal respray sometime in the mid 1990's and while holding up decently has a few small places where it is lifting and at some point should be touched up. It is not rust under the paint as the body is aluminum and does not rust, just some poor prep when they resprayed it.
The chassis is rust free and the only rust in the car is a little in the left side spare tire well of the fender where the spare is mounted.
The car in the past 6 months has had new front brake calipers, new front end bushings, new inner and outer tie rods and steering center link.
The car is still riding on its Armstrong Selectaride shocks which are still wired but no longer select as every other car with these rear shocks fails to do. That being said, the shocks still function as they should.
The engine is top notch and runs very well and the 3 vintage Holley 2 barrel carbs have been rebuilt in the last year and are dialed in nicely.
The transmission is also in fine shape and shifts as it should.
The interior of the car is in its original leather that was dyed blue from its original light grey color by a previous owner. The seats need soem attending to as that some of the leather is terrific and some of it needs replacing.
The door cards are in terrific shape and the leather on them looks almost new.
The dash is uncracked and looks presentable as well.
The wood in the car is intact but the door caps should at some point be sanded down and re-lacquered as the lacquer is starting to crack but the wood itself is fine.
The car is in RHD but is such a narrow car that it is the easiest large RHD car I have ever driven in the US.
I have put about 1600 miles on the car this year, driving it to numerous events and it has worked without a hitch and somehow delivered as much as 20 MPG!
Bristol only produced 73 examples of the 408 and this is a very rare car that is eligible for many concours and vintage rally events.
I looked for this car for almost 10 years in the US as they are very rare here and am only selling it because I found an earlier Bristol model to replace it with.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions. I have been in the collector car hobby for more than 25 years, I wrote the auction column in Classic Motorsports magazine for 12 of those years and am a collector people both know and trust, so you can count on any assessment I make to be very honest and complete.
